Summer of Design 2010

What is SoD2010?

Wellington’s Summer of Design programme follows on from the award winning Summer of
Code programme which has been connecting Wellington companies to top local students
& graduates since 2006. We provide the opportunity for you to meet & select potential
employees, plug into TechNZ funding, and a channel for you to invest in the next
generation of design talent. We put you in front of top Wellington design
students keen to launch their careers.

Sign up to host a Summer of Design intern in 2010 and you’ll get:

  • Access to recruit students in the SoD programme
  • To have the services of a talented smart student working on your project this summer
  • A streamlined application process for TechNZ funding (if eligible)
  • To showcase your company as an innovative business
  • To support strong and strengthening links between industry and tertiary institutions
  • To help build a smarter graduate pool for the future
  • To help promote Wellington and NZ as a technology destination for graduates

How does it work?

July 2010

Register on the website, fill in your profile & project scope. Once you’re registered, you can start “browsing” the student talent pool to get a feel for the skills & capabilities that are available.

August-September 2010

Recruitment happens! We’ll run a “Meet & Greet” session, then “speed interviews”. This is your opportunity to find a good match in a potential candidate, and impress them about what a great employer you’ll be. We’ll run info sessions for new companies and new mentors, and support you if you’re applying for TechNZ funding.

November 2010

Jobs start! Your intern will work closely with the assigned mentor, especially for the first couple of weeks.

November-February 2011

Summer Seminars! The nice people at Xero have sponsored a summer seminar series. We’ll organize lunchtime “tech-talks” throughout summer. A great chance to catch up with the wider SoT community, find out what other innovative projects are underway, and get networked. Oh, and there will be a few parties & celebrations along the way.
